# Configuring Eligibility Rules

Resellers (Service Providers) can apply eligibility rules to products, billing plans, or campaigns to control which customers qualify for specific offers.

This page outlines how rules can be applied effectively to achieve specific goals, such as targeting specific customers.

For instructions on how to specify eligibility rules, see:

## Targeting Specific Customers Using Tiers

Tiers help you group customers and tailor offers they receive. You can apply tiers to the following offer elements:

* **Products:** Control which products appear in the catalog for different customer groups.
* **Billing Plans:** Decide which billing plan applies to a customer based on their tier.
* **Campaigns:** Decide which campaign applies to a customer based on their tier.

**Examples**

* `Loyalty` tier for long-term customers
  * **Applies to:**
    * Product: Kids' Entertainment
* `Gold` tier for high-value customers
  * **Applies to:**
    * Product: Kids' Entertainment
    * Billing plan: 1 month free trial
* `Early-access` tier for early adopters to test a new product
  * **Applies to:**
    * Campaign: 20% off discount

**Tier-Based Eligibility Example**

This table shows how different customers qualify for offer elements based on their assigned tiers.

| Offer Element | Tier(s) Applied | Customer A (`Gold`) | Customer B (`Early-access`) | Customer C (`Gold, Early-access`) | Customer D (`Gold, Loyalty`) |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| Product: Amazing Entertainment | No tier applied | Eligible | Eligible | Eligible | Eligible |
| Product: Kids' Entertainment | `Gold, Loyalty` | Not eligible | Not eligible | Not eligible | Eligible |
| Billing Plan: 1 Month Free | `Gold` | Eligible | Not eligible | Eligible | Eligible |
| Campaign: 20% Discount | `Early-access` | Not eligible | Eligible | Eligible | Not eligible |

## Configuring Usage Limits for Fair Use

**Preventing Repeat Discounts or Subsidies**

To prevent customers from reusing the same offer:

* Set the `maxUsage` limit to `1` on billing plans and campaigns.

This ensures that once a customer cancels and repurchases any associated product, they are not eligible for the same subsidized billing plan or campaign discount again.

**Limiting to One Active Instance of a Product at a Time**

To restrict customers to a single active instance:

* Set the `maxUsageActive` limit to `1` on products.

This ensures the customer is only eligible for the associated product after it becomes inactive, expires, or they cancel.

## Enforcing Trial Limits Across Billing Plans

To prevent customers from receiving multiple trials:

* Apply a shared `trialGroup` value to a set of billing plans.
* Set `maxUsage = 1` on the billing plans.

Once a customer activates any trial or billing plan in the group, they are ineligible for all others, even after cancellation and repurchase.

## Driving Upsell with Soft Bundles Using Quantity Ranges

Soft bundles let you group related products or services while giving customers the flexibility to choose only the ones they want. By applying ascending quantity ranges to a group of campaigns, you can encourage customers to subscribe to more products. The more eligible items a customer has or purchases, the greater the discount they can receive, increasing average order value.

**How It Works:**

* `quantityRange` defines the eligible range for the number of products a user can have—both those that are active and being purchased.
* A discount only applies if the number of eligible products falls within the campaign’s `quantityRange`.
* Only one campaign applies at a time, based on the matching range.
* Higher discounts have higher quantity ranges.

**Example Campaigns**

Six products have three of the same campaigns applied:

| Campaign Name | Campaign Discount | Specified Quantity Range (quantityRange) |
| - | - | - |
| `15_bundle` | 15% | 2-3 (`2:3`) |
| `25_bundle` | 25% | 4-5 (`4:5`) |
| `30_bundle` | 30% | 6-10 (`6:10`) |

**Customer Scenarios**

The table below shows how the example applies to different customers based on the number of eligible products they have:

| Example Customer | Number of Eligible Products | Discount Received |
| - | - | - |
| Customer A | 2 | 15% on the 2 eligible products |
| Customer B | 4 | 25% on the 4 eligible products |
| Customer C | 6 | 30% on the 6 eligible products |
