# MarketONE API Types: Request-Driven and Event-Driven

MarketONE provides the following types of APIs to Merchants:

* REST APIs (MarketONE OpenAPIs): request-driven APIs
* Webhooks (OTT Service Callbacks): event-driven APIs

## About REST

Representational State Transfer (REST) architectures allow the client (or software on a user’s computer) and the server to communicate.

1. To get access to a resource, the client sends a request to the server
2. The server sends a response with encoded data about the resource.

## About Webhooks

With an event-driven system, the client (or software on a user’s computer) doesn’t need to send requests. All that’s needed is the initial setup of the webhook. The webhook is automatically called when an event occurs. The webhook shares information about the event that happened.
