This document describes the subscription upgrade and downgrade requests that Merchants can send and Resellers (Service Providers) can approve or reject. This document only applies to Platform-managed products. Note: Automatic approval of Merchant-initiated requests can be turned on within Platform Settings in the MarketONE platform.

How Update Validation Works in MarketONE

Update validation is driven by subscription change requests that Merchants send to MarketONE and MarketONE, in turn, requests from Resellers (Service Providers). A subscription change is either an upgrade or downgrade a customer wants to make to their subscription in the Reseller’s digital store. MarketONE delivers the requests to the Reseller via a gateway adapter endpoint. The Reseller can set up the gateway adapter endpoint to receive the requests. If the Reseller approves the change request, the Merchant can update the subscription. As a result, MarketONE will update the Merchant Partner subscription object with the new product ID. If the Reseller declines the change, no change is made and a decline response is sent.

Setup and Configuration

To set up update validation, your organization will do the following:
  1. Review MarketONE’s API specification for Merchant-initiated validation updates, and build the endpoint(s) to which MarketONE will deliver them.
  2. Add a gateway adapter endpoint in the MarketONE UI during your onboarding and integration phase with MarketONE. Provide the endpoint URL(s) and credentials. Select the configuration option based on your integration. Subscription Update Validate is available for organizations using Commerce Engine, and Entitlement Update Validate is available for organizations leveraging external billing and catalog systems.
You can also update your gateway adapter endpoint configurations at a later date.

Merchant-Initiated Update Validation APIs

MarketONE delivers subscription change requests to Resellers (Service Providers) using the following APIs:
  • POST /v2/subscription/{id}/update/validate - delivers an upgrade or downgrade request for a customer subscription. This endpoint is specific to integrations using Commerce Engine.
  • POST v2/entitlement/{id}/update/validate - delivers an upgrade or downgrade request for a customer Merchant Partner subscription. This endpoint is specific to Resellers leveraging external billing and catalog systems.
